AS A POSTPARTUM DOULA

These services can start from the time that the parent(s) are still in the hospital or at home. Before the due date, I can assist parent(s) in shopping for the baby.  My services include and are prioritized in the following:

1.  Teach parent(s) breastfeeding (learn and to prevent any complications).

How to latch baby on breast, different positions for breastfeeding, how to wake a sleepy baby and why baby sleeps on breast, how to burp baby.  How often baby needs to eat, how to prevent engorgement, how and when to use a pump, providing a list of foods to eat and not to eat and more.

It is important that mom and partner or coach would learn everything about breastfeeding.  If mom forgets anything, then partner or the coach can remind her.  Mother's mind can be still forgetful because of her breastfeeding mind which is continuing from pregnancy!

2.  Teach parent(s) how to care for newborn.

How and when to swaddle baby, how to recognize different crying, how to bathe the baby, how to use different types of diapers (cloth and disposable), how to recognize and take care of stomach aches and more. It is essential that parent(s) know how to be with baby, what and how to talk with baby and describing how baby can understand what is happening around him/her.

3.  Teach parent(s) how to prevent postpartum depression.

4.  Be of assistance and guiding new parent(s) to learn how to coop with this transitional stage of life.

All the practical issues such as what to do at nights, when and how to take baby out, as well as how to bring baby into daily life routine and vise versa how to change their lifestyle around baby's schedule.

5.  Also covering issues of how to keep love alive between couples with the big change in life.

6.  Taking care of mother.

Making sure she has enough nap time, she is eating a well balanced diet to provide milk and stay healthy. Giving her massage, and if necessary cook and shop, breastfeeding necessities such as a pump, bra  or other things.

7.  Teaching parent(s) what to ask a pediatrician.

8.   Providing shopping list for baby to those who want to shop by themselves.
